Artist Biography
Elisa K. Mason is a Mississippi-based artist working primarily in oil, watercolor, and linoleum printmaking. Currently residing in Gulfport, she brings to her work a deep appreciation for Southern heritage and a lifelong passion for storytelling through visual art.
Rooted in a strong tradition of both Impressionism and Mississippi folk art, Mason's work often evokes a strong sense of place and time—capturing the spirit and icons of the American South. Her pieces serve as visual time capsules, celebrating the people, landmarks, and cultural textures that shape Mississippi’s identity.
A certified public school art teacher, Mason has also contributed significantly to the broader cultural landscape through her commissioned works. Her art has been featured by the Mississippi Arts Commission, the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion, and even The White House. In 2000 and 2001, she created the pieces awarded as the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, and in 2000, her handcrafted ornaments adorned the Mississippi Christmas Tree on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Her contributions to the White House holiday collection are now part of the permanent exhibit at the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas, Texas.
Mason is an active member of the Mississippi Plein Air Painters, regularly capturing the vivid landscapes of the Gulf Coast. With family roots in Newton, Mississippi, she remains deeply connected to her heritage, drawing inspiration from the history, people, and places that define the region.
